Our farm takes his name from grandfather Isidoro who was know by everyone by the nickname of “Doro”, which in Genoese dialect is “Durin”. The land has been our family’s property for generations. It is made up by many plots of land and some “stripes” of land cultivated with olive trees and vineyard distributed a bit everywhere on the soft hills of the Arroscia valley.
At the beginning of the 1980s, our family business starts its transformation thanks to Antonio Basso. By rejecting the mixture which characterized the crop rotation of the old generation which alternated selling grapes with selling wine, Antonio Basso addresses the business to specialization..
However, from the end of the 1990s, with the help of Laura, the Durin firm is brought back to the past to retrieve old traditions and tastes of the local land. Some little parcels of land located in good positions, about 17,200 acres, are purchased to plant vineyards, the idea ok making a sparkling wine with the pigato grape is kept on .This wine will be refined in the fantastic Toirano caves with a special estate permission and will be the winner of a very important international challenge.Autochthonous vines present in old vineyards are also retrieved. Although these vineyards have little consideration and their production is poor, they offer high quality products.
Today the wine-producing-firm continues this burdensome and detailed work of qualitative selection of the vineyard together with a precise and thorough processing in the wine-making without ever forgetting that “the extra touch that characterizes our wine is the perfect symbiosis of these elements and the passion for what we do day after day. Our objective is reaching the right balance between the idea of what “Durin” should be and what it is becoming thanks to us or maybe it will become thanks to our children. Our hope is that by tasting one of our wines people will also be able to sense a piece of our heart in that bottle.
